From October 2nd through October 31st 2010 BCB ART will present “Work and transformation” new work by PHILIP HOWIE, and “Communion” new work by ERIC RHEIN.
Although small in scale Philip Howie’s new sculptures of the male figure have an incredible monumentality. Spiritually akin to Paul Manship’s Prometheus at the Rockefeller Plaza in NYC, his subject’s musculature is both strained and exhilarated by an implied heroic task.
Eric Rhein’s new body of work Communion is inspired by humanity’s kinship and responsibility to our natural surroundings. Merged with a tinge of ‘mountain mythology’ remembered from boyhood vacations in the mountains of Kentucky, his new wire drawings and collages are always calling us ‘back to nature’.
A reception for the artists will be held at the gallery on Saturday, October 2nd – from 6-8 pm.
Also on display will be four recently discovered watercolor interiors by CHING HO CHENG (1947-1989), miniatures from his ‘Studio light- Chelsea Hotel' series from 1981, and a selection of photographic portraits of Turkish wrestlers by SEDAT PAKAY, as well as a selection of works by gallery artists including RICHARD ARTSCHWAGER, FRANK CRESSOTTI, ERIC FISCHL, BARBARA FRIEDMAN, ED SMITH, JULIE Mc CARTHY - and others.
