From September 22- through October 21 2012 BCB ART will present BATTLE OF THE NAKED MEN – new work by ED SMITH.
Calling on the spirits of Michelangelo, Goya, Rodin, and others who have been consumed with the power and the physical presence of our bodies Ed Smith takes on the mantle of addressing those same concerns.
His new exhibition at BCB ART will feature life size bronze sculptures depicting heroic pugilists- men constantly at battle- with the world- and with themselves.
As with Smith’s artistic heroes- there is a dark side- a reminder that we always wrestle with this finite life- but there is the uplifting romantic satisfaction in his work where viewers can truly dream.
Ed Smith is a Guggenheim Fellow and an Associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors. His work is in the collection of The Hood Museum, Yale University Museum, The Albright-Knox Museum and many private collectors.
Also on view will be a new video by Bill Seaman- “A China of many senses” A poetic documentation focusing on small moments in a country undergoing political and artistic change.
Bill Seaman is an internationally known media artist, currently teaching Visual Studies at Duke University. His work is in the collections of The Museum of Modern Art, NYC, The Sackner Collection of Concrete and Visual Poetry, Fla, Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design and others.
An opening reception for the artist will be held at the gallery on September 22nd from 6-8 pm.
